Meet the gang. (most came up on the bus)
Final re-pack.
Bags away – how is all of this stuff going to fit in the trucks ?
Nervous start. Everyone’s tentative. Seems like a good bunch! Let’s go!
First briefing – the Birdsville Track will be open – yay
Set off to the water. Many photos. Many people with shoes off in water. It’s all good.
Group photo done, and the onto the road towards Quorn.
The rain starts just after the turn off towards Quorn – boo.
The lunch spot is hard to get to due to road works, and the lunch van is delayed.
Rick (one of crew) arrives with the water truck, and keeps us entertained as we use a seemingly abandoned(?) road-works truck for shelter from the cold wind.
Something must have gone wrong with the other vehicles, and we call a vote to move on towards Quorn, as it’s only 20 km’s away.
Just as we leave, our bus comes past, and we stop a bit further up the road for lunch.
Lunch is the first opportunity for us all to sit and talk, and people are getting to know each others names.
Just as lunch is ending, and people are heading off towards Quorn, the heavens open. It’s a wet, but downhill sprint into Quorn – and straight to the pub!
The fire at the pub is a welcome sight. Bikes abandoned. jackets off, and it’s a coffee / hot chocolate to the rescue.
A quick tent set-up, and we’re ready for dinner, and a quick trip back to the pub later for a nightcap.
The locals put on quite a show, with a mock wedding in the front bar.
It’s been a big day, so off to bed, and bring on day 2!
